Orthoses

orthoses1Orthoses are medical appliances which look like insoles but are custom made to correct your individual foot and leg alignment. This restores the optimal function of your foot and prevents further injury. Orthoses work by applying gentle consistent pressure to bring muscles and bones back into proper alignment. They fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole bringing relief from fatigue and pain, allowing you to enjoy daily activities and sports comfortably.

At the clinic we can provide two types of orthoses that are either already made (prefabricated) or custom made from a cast or foot scan (bespoke).

  1. Prefabricated orthoses are ready made functional insoles that can be customised by heat moulding them to your foot and balanced to your individual prescription. We have a range of styles to suit footwear choice and activity level. Our selection of makes include Vasyli (AOL), Starflex and Interpod.
  2. Custom orthoses are individually made to your prescription. The measurements taken during a biomechanical assessment (see biomechanics page) are used along with an exact 3-D computer laser scan of your feet to produce the Orthoses (see Laser Foot Scanning) this method ensures an extremely accurate final orthotic is made which is unique to your feet.

We can also assess, repair, adjust or replace existing orthoses.

Remember your feet are the foundation for your entire body.

Obtaining and consistently wearing orthotics can be the best investment you can make in your overall well being.

Laser Foot Scanning

We have the latest 3-D Optical Laser Scanner at the Clinic. The laser scans your foot with a red laser beam to capture a 3 Dimensional image which ensures the exact measurements and positions of your foot are recorded.

This data along with your prescription (see Biomechanics) is sent to the laboratory (www.foothealth.eu).

Your Orthoses are then directly milled using CAD/CAM technology. This method of manufacture ensures an extremely accurate final orthosis is made. The Orthoses are then finished with a top cover in a choice of materials.
